Your Past, Revisited

One of the easiest ways to see how much you’ve progressed over the years is to revisit songs from your past. It’s always interesting to see how these songs that you once thought of as innocent and playful are completely opposite of that.
For example, one song that I always correlate with my childhood is Shaggy’s 2000 hit “It Wasn’t Me”. If you would’ve asked my adolescent self what that song was about you would’ve probably received an answer like “it’s about a guy who gets in trouble for bad stuff and denies it.” Little did I know back then that the song was about infidelities and full of sexual innuendos wrapped up in a catchy reggae-pop beat.
Taking a closer look at items of your past simply shows how transformative just a few years are. We understand more than we did before, comprehend concepts that were once harder to grasp, and things from our past seem to hold a new meaning.
